What is the most horrible thing a human can possibly go through? Pain, Fear, Suffering? To me, the absolutely most horrible thing a human can under go is Grief. Its a state of constant chest congestion and heart ache. The moment grief strikes till its over, one gets through hell.
Can grief be used as punishment? YES. It is written in Quran that on the day of judgement, some people will be grief stricken.
[003:106] That day, some faces would be bright (and radiant with joy), and some faces would be darkened (and grim with grief). Those with darkened faces (will be told), “Aren’t you those who rejected (the truth) after having believed (at first)? Now taste the torment! (It is) the result of your rejection.”
When sad, nothing looks good. Hope vanishes and future looks bleak. World looks dark with nothing good to ever pass through this wormhole. Interesting thing is, world outside is the same, its just the perspective that changes. Imagine living in this state of mind for ever and ever. With absolutely no chances to ever recover ! This will be the punishment of those who will be destined for hell.
May Allah save us all from such a state where there is no chances of death with constant suffering.
